Nutrition is one of the 3 foundations of good health, but we tend to waste an awful lot of food and potential nutrients, that we or others could benefit from.
CURRENTLY WORKING ON Challenge: To develop a device/solution that will reduce food waste for all at home and lead to better health decisions, and a food share solution that helps people benefit from others wasted food habits
The Background
Before the arrival of apps we had simple devices (digital and non-digital) in our kitchens for all sorts of things, and since the arrival of apps that has only grown further into AI readable data to help us measure and bake better, time the perfect toast, craft the perfect smoothie, and have recipes to follow along with and learn as we go, and even experiment with.
There’s never been a better time to be in our kitchens and create, but alongside this growth in home cooking and baking we’ve also gradually become more and more aware about what it is we are cooking, and how it is good or bad for us, but we haven’t really figured out a better way to ensure that ‘smart-bin’ doesn’t fill up with so much waste.
Sure, there’s a few devices that aim to see us create less waste as we cook, and certainly recipes to follow for using up left-overs, but what about saving waste in the first place, or ensuring that what we cook is not only good for our health but also not going to lead to excessive consumption or waste? What if we could measure what we tend to use, and tend to waste better, and figure out what mixed ingredients are generally better for our health and dietary requirements than others? What if we could also find ways to reduce wasteful packaging while we are at it?
Well this is the bold project that I’m currently getting into through a living lab, which requires a lot of research and innovative thinking.
The Solution/s
This one will be a ‘watch this space’ case study for now as there’s a lot being worked on and little that can be publicised at the moment, but when I’m able to do so I will share updates, solutions and outcomes on this project.
